Indian fast bowler Siddarth Kaul will travel to the United Kingdom after signing a short-term deal with Northamptonshire. The right arm pacer has signed a contract to play three Vitality County Championship games for Northamptonshire.
The 33-year-old last played for India in 2018 when he featured in three T20 internationals and three ODIs. The seamer played against England at Trent Bridge and Lord’s and although he went wicketless, he was a tad impressive.
Kaul plays for Punjab in the Indian domestic circuit and has taken 15 wickets in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy at an average of 31.26.
The Punjab-based player is a replacement for Australia’s fast bowler Chris Tremain, who played four games for the county under his contract.
Speaking about his United Kingdom sojourn, Kaul said he was excited to get some county cricket experience under his belt and hoped to give his best. “I am very happy to represent Northamptonshire and excited to help the team win games and push for a promotion. I am confident that I will bring my positive mindset and experience to help my teammates win in any situation in the match,” Kaul said.
Northamptonshire’s head coach John Sadler hoped Kaul’s first-class experience will hold his team in good stead. “Sid (Siddarth Kaul) has a lot of experience with the ball, he has played a lot of first-class cricket and is keen to make a big impact when he joins the squad. He’s finished his domestic season over in India where he picked up some good form so hopefully he continues that on with us,” Sadler said.
The pace bowler has taken 286 first-class wickets at an average of 26.44 with 16 five-wicket hauls and is available for selection immediately.
Northamptonshire's next Vitality County Championship match is against Gloucestershire on May 10. The match will be played at Wantage Road, home to the Northamptonshire County Cricket Club.
